Dogs life

Sunday’s Quote

“Rotties were/are our babies.  They may have been misfits to many…but to us they are our diamonds.  Nothing more beautiful than your own dogs”

Today’s quote comes from a lady who devoted her life to rescue dogs, mainly rotties and labs.  She took on cases where the health of the dogs had been compromised by poor breeding and after dealing with medical needs, vaccinations and neutering she loved them, that’s all she did love them and they loved her.  Love is what all the rescue dogs need.
Bad breeders – the ones who only do it to make money and don’t care about the dogs health and welfare – they would stop if we were not buying dogs from them as then they would not make any money.  Next time you get a dog consider having a rescue dog – they need some lovin…

Dexter and Heinz currently in the care of Hope Rescue – their only issue is that they need lots of love.

Tilly is a much loved ex rescue dog from Border Collie Trust – her only issue is how to train owner John to Gold standard for her kennel club award.

If you want to know more about giving a lovely rescue dog a new home and lots of love then try the links below -

Border Collie Trust – here you will find some lovely girls and boys who are ready and willing to give you lots of love and loyalty.  The centre which is based in Staffordshire rehomes around 400 border collies and collie crosses a year.  You will find that many of the dogs they have there are there through no fault of their own for example this is the info sent out about their most recent guest -

“Mature Male – Vinnie is a 12-year-old black and white long coated border collie who has come to us from his own home. His owner is seriously ill and due to the treatment she will be under on her return home and the effect on her immune system she’s unable to keep Vinnie.”

Hope Rescue – based in Wales this rescue organisation saves dogs who would otherwise be put to sleep as they are in council pounds where they can only stay for a very limited time span.  Their website states,

Most of our work involves moving dogs from put to sleep or emergency situations. We secure rescue spaces for these dogs with reputable rescues such as the Dogs Trust, Blue Cross and RSPCA, together with a number of excellent smaller rescues and breed rescues. We will also transport them to the rescue and cover many thousands of miles every month.

The majority of the dogs we deal with are strays from Local Authority pounds which would otherwise be euthanised once they have completed their statutory 7 days”

The pups in the picture above are in one of their foster homes – info on fostering and how to help fund raise is on their website.

Tuesday’s Quote

This is like Christmas!  Two bank holidays in one go!  Great – so another poem instead of a quote.  I hope you enjoy this one the last bit made me laugh out loud but then I am slightly mad! :)

Where Did Pets Come From?

And Adam said, “Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me every day. Now I do not see you anymore. I am lonesome here and it is difficult for me to remember how much you love me.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will know I love you, even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish and childish and unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself.”

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged his tail. And Adam said, “But Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and all the good names are taken and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.”

And God said, “No problem! Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.”

And Dog lived with Adam and was a companion to him and loved him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that Adam’s guardian angel came to the Lord and said, “Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts and preens like a peacock and he believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but no one has taught him humility.”

And the Lord said, “No problem! I will create for him a companion who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is. The companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he is not worthy of adoration.”

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam.

And when Adam gazed into Cat’s eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being. And Adam learned humility.

And God was pleased. And Adam was greatly improved.

And Cat did not care one way or the other.

Monday’s Quote

A bit special today as it is a UK bank holiday – so instead of a simple quote I have found a poem that really made me smile.  I missed the time when Stan was a little puppy but he is still very young so some of this is familiar….. enjoy -

The Life of a Puppy

This morning, I woke up & kissed my dad’s head.
I peed on the carpet, then went back to bed.
“The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great.”
Then I thought about breakfast,” I hope it’s not late.”

Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.
This never fails to make Mama smile.
I sniffed of everything, that we did pass,
I ate something weird – it gave me gas.

I’m sure God loves me, I know that is true.
He gave me so many great things to chew.
Rugs, plants or rocks, I really don’t care.
What I truly like best, is Dad’s underwear.

That obedience book, was sort of yummy.
Though it didn’t sit well on my poor puppy tummy.
I threw up a bit, but that was all right,
When Mom found it later, I was well out of sight.

I made streamers of T. P., while running at full speed.
Mom is pretty quick — but I was still in the lead.
I flew under the bed, and Mom flew past,
She stopped-shook her head, and breathed,
“You’re too fast.”

Mama later phoned Daddy, and said, “It was frightening!”
That afternoon, she was sure I’d pooped lightning.
She’d sat at the computer, while I chewed the cord,
She thought I was mad, but I was just bored.

When Mama had enough, couldn’t take anymore,
That’s when my tushy got shoved out the door.
I love it inside, but outside is best.
Lay in the cool grass, and had a good rest.

That didn’t last long, there was too much to do–
Can’t quite remember where I hid Daddy’s shoe.
I found an old bone, and scratched at a flea,
I watched the dumb squirrels as they jumped in a tree.

I barked at the kids, when they got off the bus.
I can’t figure out why this makes Mama fuss.
I barked at the neighbor, I barked at the wind.
I barked and barked, till Mom yelled, “COME IN.”

The sun dipped in the west-soon Daddy would come!
I sure love my daddy: we always have fun.
I barked at my daddy, then turned on my charms,
I woo-wooed, “Hello,” then jumped in his arms.

Sitting under the table — it’s sooo hard to wait.
Daddy slipped me a goodie right off his plate.
I raced through the house, and scattered my toys,
Ricocheted off the furniture, and made lots of noise.

Mom found her purse – the one I abused.
Daddy let loose a chuckle. Mom asked “Amused??”
I cowered down low, I must be in trouble.
Dad said, “Wasn’t MY boy, it must be his double!”

Mom turned off the TV, and said,”Time for bed.”
Dad said “Let’s go boy,” and patted my head.
I got in my spot, between Mom and Dad,
I thought ’bout my day and what fun I had.

Mama kicked out my bone from the covers below,
Then let loose a sigh — a sigh deep and low.
She gave me a kiss, and snuggled me tight,
And whispered so softly, ‘My darling goodnight’.

Friday’s Quote

Inside every Newfoundland, Boxer, Elkhound and Great Dane is a puppy longing to climb on to your lap.

Helen Thomson

This is Stan wearing his thunder shirt, a special shirt to help calm a hyper dog – now that shirt would make a blog all by itself! He thought he could not move while wearing it!

Wednesday’s Quote

Now I lay me down to sleep, The king-size bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove My human being can hardly move!
I’ve trapped her legs, she’s tucked in tight And here is where I pass the night.
No one disturbs me, or dares intrude. Till morning comes and “I want food!”
I sneak up slowly to begin, my nibbles on my human’s chin.
She wakes up quickly, I have sharp teeth – I’m a puppy, don’t you see?
For the morning’s here and it’s time to play, I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me, this human person that I see.

The one who hugs and holds me tight, and shares her bed with me at night!

Taken from http://all4paws.homestead.com/caninequotes.html

I think someone needs to tell Stan that this poem is about a puppy and he is NOT a puppy – he seems confused as though he thinks he should still be a puppy…..

Stan relaxes on the sofa.

Monday’s Quote

The greatest fear dogs know is the fear that you will not come back when you go out the door without them.

Stanley Coren, dog psychologist

These amazing collies were at Chase Water and stayed in the car like this for a very long time despite it appearing that there was no human there with them! Very well-behaved.

Tuesday’s quote

Today we have a question rather than a quote although the all-powerful tin-ter-nett tells me that Abraham Lincoln first posed this question which I think therefore makes it a quotation.

Question – How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?

Answer – 4

Reason – Calling a tail a leg does not make it a leg!
