Happy Valentines

on February 14, 2013

We had a great day out today raising funds for Border Collie Trust.  Frank was giving out snuggles for donations and we were selling gift wrapped valentines biscuits for dogs.  We were in Just for Pets in Burton and even though we were only there for 4 hours we made £50 for the rescue dogs which is great news.

I want to say thanks to the team at Just for Pets for making us welcome as always and also to the team at the in store vets – Easipet – who were running a promotion with half price vaccinations which was great as it meant the store was very busy so we got to see lots of people and their lovely dogs.

This is the stand we had today - nice and simple and easy to set up. There is small picninc table under the table cloth and I made the biscuits at home and displayed them on a stand from aq pound shop. Perhpas this is something you could try in a local shop to help raise funds for us. If you fancy giving it a try please get in touch.

These visitors were on their way to visit the friendlly Easipet team and stopped first to help with Frank's socilisation.

Outings like this are great for socialising little Frank but not all meetings are as happy as when he runs to meet other dogs and people….

Here Frank meets a chicken but he is a little worried by the bird and stays firmly in the arms of one of the staff members.

Frank especially liked meeting this little chap who came in dressed as Scooby Doo.

There will be much more going on 2nd and 3rd March in the store to raise funds for Border Collie Trust and we need as many helpers as we can get so if you can help out then get in touch.  Also we need as many people as possible to enter the competition or visit over the weekend so tell all your friends if they are local. :)

  1. That sounds great. Shame we don’t live closer or I’d go in for the competition

Was lovely to meet you at Burton with Frank. I wonder if you could give me some advice. We brought our puppy Minnie in and mentioned to you we are thinking of having another puppy. I would like your advice on whether to get a bitch or dog. My concerns are that as we already have a bitch, when she is in season would the male dog hassle her for the full three weeks? I would like to breed Minnie so would prefer not to have her neutered.
    Many Thanks Niki

Hi Niki – it was good to meet you as well – Frank loved your puppy and so did I, she is so fluffy and cute.

Personally I would go for a longer age gap as I think it is important that all your dogs get the chance to bond with you more than with each other and this is hard to do when they are both so little.

As I am involved in dog rescue I would also urge you to get a rescue pup or young dog rather than from a breeder as I think far too many puppies are brought into this world – thousands are destroyed every year as there are too many puppies born which I think is tragic.

My friend has a bitch and dog living in the same house and they are not neutered and she has to send her male dog to live with friends every time the bitch is in season. This is the only way to avoid the inevitable.

Thank you for your honesty. Was thinking similar thoughts about the sex of the dog. I do however want another pup as I have always had pups and trained them our way.
Thank you for replying. Give Frank a cuddle from us. He’s an absolutely beautiful dog x
